Munchers 50 years to be celebrated in May 2025 - registration details etc to be advised soon

Hi All Belfast Members

Since my last newsletter I have to report that our assistant Div 1 coach Dwayne Prendergast has resigned due to personal reason.  This is very disappointing as Dwayne was very passionate about his role and had built up a great rapport with the younger players and had a wealth of coaching knowledge.  We wish him all the best for what ever his future coaching may look like.

A big welcome back to Nathan Anderson who left Belfast as a very young man and plied his skills in Japan.  He has stepped in to assist with coaching the Div 1.  Thanks Nathen and we look forward to your future involvement with the club.

The Div 1 team have had losses against Old Boys and Linwood but have put up strong performances in both games.  They have added to their United Nations look by the arrival of a French and two more young Japanese players.

Congratulations to Elliot Prendergast and Suliasi Faviva from the Div 1 team who have both been named in the Canterbury under 19 training squad.  All the best.

The div 2 team had a great win against Canterbury University and then lost to a very strong Linwood team who had the good fortune of having 10 players on their bench.  I want to say a big thankyou to coaches Lance and Paul and managers Noel and Gary who don’t know what team they will put on the field until the start of the games.  Your efforts are truly appreciated by the club.

The colts had an outstanding win on Saturday against Old Boys.  Always good to beat them, well done.  Trent and Blocker are putting together a very useful team.  Keep up the good work.

The under 18’s lost a close battle against St Andrews last week and their was cancelled this week.  Keep up the training and I’m sure you will be back on the winning track this Saturday.  It’s great to see the culture and passion that Mike and Jas are installing in the team and the team have obviously bought into.

The Munchers have come up against  very strong Suburbs and Halswell/Wigram teams in the past two weeks but regardless of their results they are always back supporting the club.

A great night was had on the evening of the function.  Well done to Connie and everyone involved in running the evening.  A great turn out and top performance by the Netball girls.  I hear the Munchers were the winners.

A big thank you to our Div 1 Manageress Heather Algar and husband Neil who have two of our Div 1 players boarding at their place.  This is much appreciated.

The club are keen to hear from any other loyal supporters who would be prepared to take on a player, especially early in the 2024 season.

We are also looking for potential employers to take on players which may also include the obtaining of work visas.

If anyone is able to assist or would like further information you can contact me on 027 4489026 or e-mail the club.

A big congratulations to Bramley (Paul Loversidge) for winning the cash raffle.  It couldn’t have gone to a more deserving member as he puts so much of his own time and effort into the club, well done Bram.

The season is drawing to an end and I hate to finish my newsletter on such a note but I’m asking players and supporters to please pay your subscriptions as the club is in need of a cash injection to pay our many invoices.

Regards

Don Fisher
